Office Building

On a Saturday evening, a 50-year-old indoor 13.2 KV service switch was being shut down to allow for the replacement of downstream potential transformers. During shutdown, the unit failed mechanically. The customer called Penn Panel & Box Company on the emergency number and our engineer visited the jobsite at 8 a.m. Sunday morning. The unit could not be repaired; however, Penn Panel & Box Company did have a stock outdoor unit that could be used instead. Our technician completed the unit for this job, and at 12 noon the switch was delivered to the jobsite. The technician worked through Sunday evening to permanently install the switchgear, and the office opened as usual on Monday morning.

RESULT: NO DOWN TIME.

Manufacturing Plant

A component 13.2 KV switch in a Peco Energy Co. service unit failed on a Saturday evening. Peco de-energized the service and told the customer that Peco would provide power once the customer repaired the unit. The customer called the Penn Panel & Box Company emergency number, and the duty engineer visited the site on Sunday morning. He determined that the damage had been confined to the switch only and that we had a replacement switch in stock. Two service technicians replaced the switch in the unit. Peco was brought back to re-energize the line, and the plant opened on schedule on Monday morning.

RESULT: NO DOWN TIME OR LOST PRODUCTION.
